I got a few questions about how ranged weapons and damage resitance works
Let say you either got A: A longbow +3 AB, ordinary ammo B: A normal longbow arrows +3 dmg C: A normal longbow +1D6 piercing dmg D: 5 lvl arcane archer normal bow/ammo E: is a ranger casting blade thirst on your ordinary bow
and shoot at a cute chef golem with 10/+3 damage resistance, which off the alternatives would penetrate the resitances?

A - No B - Would absorb first 10pts of damage. C - As above D - No because there is no enhancement to damage E - Does this not only apply to a slashing weapon? I'm for No.
Now I'll let a technical bod answer this far more thoroughly
Weapons with +3 AB can penetrate 10/+3 DR. This isn't formally correct, as AB isn't Enchancement bonus, but that's the way it works. More here: -Clickedy-

All can hit however the first 10 points of any damage from a weapon up to +3 will be absorbed. So only B & C (possibly E) could inflict some damage. The others, even at max damage would be absorbed.

Just to clarify: A: Penetrates the DR. Weapon +AB always penetrates DR. B: Does not penetrate the DR. +Damage on arrows alone will not penetrate DR. C: Does not penetrate the DR. +Damage on weapons alone will not penetrate DR. For the record, in NWN you can't put a damage bonus directly on a bow. D: Penetrates the DR. Arcane Archer Enchant Arrow feats penetrate DR. At AA level 9, they penetrate all DR spells and properties as if they were +5 Enhancement. It stacks with both arrow +Damage and with weapon +AB. (IMO, for these reasons it's a class poorly suited to a low magic world). E: Penetrates the DR. On Thain, Blade Thirst adds a +AB to a bow, which penetrates DR.
