I agree. Usually, when I don't want to great cleave everything while escorting a group of lower levels, I'll equip a ranged weapon and stay in the back. I find it a lot easier to contribute without dominating with a ranged weapon, since autoattack with a bow or sling is much easier to control than a cleave. If that's not an option, turning on expertise helps too.

P.S., I miss seeing Jojo and Baxter in game.
