As seen here Thain will, at some point in the future, be moving to NWN:EE.
While the benefits of such a change are not so obvious on the surface (aside from the long-term bug fixes), under the surface they can help a lot with development.
Given that, initial reactions aren't all positive (why pay for something I own already). However, some of the biggest the benefits for Thain include: -resource limit increase -integrated NWNX -potential auto-download of haks -PW stability optimization
So, we'd like to know your thoughts on the announcement.

For me, as a player and a developer, I'm excited about the changes to come. It's a 15-year-old game (and it seems that way at times), so I'm more than happy to buy the game for the third time. I know $20 isn't meaningless to everyone, but I got so much out of the first purchases, that I'm happy to support continued development.
In the back of my mind, I always wondered when the end would come for NWN as OS/drivers kept progressing. Now, I don't worry about that for the first time in a long time.

Like Xerah I've been worried about being one OS or Driver update away from no longer being able to run NWN. As it is I can run it but have lots of visual bugs and invisible monsters, making DMing difficult. Workarounds work... Sometimes. The reality is this game is old and we may only be a year or two away from losing important active players and DMs. There is also the matter of progression in building. We have had to cut areas and entire projects due to the resource limit. I don't think it's any secret a lot of development for Thain suddenly came to a halt. Every time we add something we also have to find and take away something else.
And man. In excited for the EE. I'm excited for the people who can come back who haven't been able to play. I'm excited for the under the hood changes. For being able to dye armor part by part and not as a whole thing. I'm excited for a server listing which could bring us more cross contamination with other servers. I'm excited to bring friends into this game who haven't been able to try it before.
Personally, I'd rather everyone send Jewwe 20 bucks and send the support his way.
That said, I'll do whatever Jewwe wants to do. If he upgrades the server to EE, then looks like I will too. If he's taken on enough financial burden by hosting, and leaves thain as is. I'm doing that.
What I'm blind too, is the 20.00. When I look there, all I see is pre-orders for 40.00. What am I missing?

I am glad that this new edition has been made available. As stated by Falkala and Xera, I have been worried about progressing technology leaving Thain unplayable. I am also looking forward to the fix on the polymorph bug. scratch

I would be super interested in hearing the other reasons for not playing.
Thain's issues aren't monetary. If it was a matter of throwing a few bucks the staff's way, I'm sure we'd have heard about it by now, and it wouldn't really be a problem.
The issue is in the fact that technology has advanced so far since NWN was released that we were pretty close (relatively speaking) to seeing the end of such an awesome part of gaming culture.
Keep in mind, that's true of just about every server. Anyone who might have upgraded their computers in the last few years would have had to say farewell to this community, and this game. That's a real shame and I'm super glad there's now an alternative to a slow death for Thain.

It's a great thing, and I'm glad to see that the server getting the upgrade that it needs.
That being said, it's not 'just' $20. Not for everyone.
Not everyone's computer is going to be able to handle 4k HDMI 6040p 1.21 jiggawatts of pure HD gaming power. There was a time where I was running NWN, and Thain, off of a netbook.
A netbook!
If I was only running on a netbook, and saw this, I might as well start figuring out how to kill off my characters. Which, I may or may not be doing anyway...
For people who can't upgrade due to hardware, they aren't looking at the $20. They're looking at the $400.
And you'll know who they are, when the switch happens.
