Randomly decided to check in after years and see talk of Doordie and Amel. Lots of fun memories! Arguably my first long time character, Narwyn, ended up closely aligned with Amel as his protege.
Doordie was one of the best RP's I ever played with. His stories, with his character Amel, were amazing. Rich, deep, complex. I hope Doordie is doing well! You have a really great Uncle!

Hmm.. Good replies.
@ Jandari and Matt I remember how tentacles was awesome in single player. The idea of giant tentacles crushing my enemies is really appealing to me as well..lol. I do hate the fact that they won't do anything to those iron clan goblins.
One thing that I have definitely found with a caster in a group is that long range spells can leave the caster in a much safer place than medium range spells.

For RP's sake, most of my toons would definitely not rush into giant tentacles coming out of nowhere, no matter how much the magicky fellow says they won't harm his buddies. Maybe after some convincing.
For rules' sake, AoE spells effect EVERYONE in the area. The party pvp areas allow casters to spam them without harming friendlies to make the game less bitchy to play compared to hc rules, but IMHO every player and especially group should consider how it's meant to work and how realistic it seems before casting AoE spells into melee and/or rushing into "friendly" AoE spells.

Does it tend to make it boring for some groups due to the sheer power of the spell ending the fights too early, or just because the monsters don't fight back when paralyzed ? I usually see players of rogues liking anything that allows sneak attacks, but it may be different for fighters and other tanks.
The main issue I have with fighting paralyzed monsters is the humiliation when you still can't hit it...

This is why on my sorcerers I never take any AOE spells other than tentacles (which I only use for solo play). I tend to stick to spells that target individual targets.
I really hate when I'm fighting something in melee and here comes a huge fireball that was cast by an ally.
