Linux up and running.

Trying to follow the instructions online for installing NWN and I get stuck at the run fixinstall step. For some reason this just keep opening in a script editor rather than running the fix. I'm sure I am missing something simple, or doing something wrong in the lead up.

I have been able to run NWN via WINE though with few issues (can't switch screens, can only be in game). So if I cannot get it to run native on Linux i have a workaround. I did need to load the current Intel graphics drivers to get this to work.

Haven't tried the toolset or DM Client, will have to try them over the next few days.

You may need to make fixinstall executable (chmod +x in command line if needed). Then it should run instead of being edited.

FG, I tried that, but only after it was opened to be edited. It would still want to open in the editor. That said, I am going to try again from scratch and set things like that before I perform the step. I am sure it is something silly/stupid that I am doing wrong.

You should try to run it in command line.

cd /dir/of/nwn
./fixinstall

*smacks hand to fist* there must be a way to build in Linux.

I think I am getting closer. Except when I run ./nwn I get the following error:

"Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)"

Anyone have any ideas of what to try to get rid of this error?

Edit:
Figured it out. Needed to run the command:

sudo mv /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libtxc_dxtn.so /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libtxc_dxtn.nwncrapsout.so

And now it works. So I am running NWN through Linux and via WINE. Today is a good day.

Now I need to see if I can create a shortcut. Not a big deal, but would be nice.

I tried gaming on Ubuntu 14.04 just recently. I managed to install the game (from GOG) Under WINE. I can get the game to work though a simple, yet annoying workaround is required to get the game to display properly.

I couldn't connect to Thain servers. IDK about this broadcom thing though. I'm not using any Broadcom hardware - if it's hardware.
