I was sure I'd made a thread for this title some time ago, but I can't find it now. Regardless, here's a new trailer for its greenlight: Shards Online: Greenlight Trailer

Hmm that sounds quite ambitious, based on their development so far...anyway I hope they'll make it in foreseeable future.
I've been following them for a couple years now, and they've been making steady progress. I wouldn't exclude the possibility of their schedule slipping, or that Beta might last longer than they plan.
Of the current titles I'm watching, this one is the most aligned with NWN independent persistent world system.

I like the concepts and they have couple big names - but the team is rather small and I am worried about the budget, it showed couple times already. Of course, I am doing what I can to spread the word and support them.

Shards Online changed its name a little while back, due to expanding their release world to be larger in map scale and no player limits, but still supporting their open player-run servers concept:
The are currently in "Focused Alpha", which looks pretty good. They're already been through several prior alpha test stages and this is a continuation of that. There's a summary of their current status and upcoming content release schedule at Focused Alpha – Patch 1 is Live!.
This is not a super-high quality graphics game. But it does look like something I might play, regardless.
Their development blogs really show some progress since last I checked, such as:
It seems to me that if any current game in development could be a conceptual sequel to NWN, with the idea of player-run worlds, with active game-masters and environmental and rules customization, then this game is it.
