Something I found useful in learning code was to save copies of snippets of code and then try to rewrite them without looking. Mix it up and do it again. Then use the snippet as a reference when getting caught up. Retain more that way too.
Eclipse makes it pretty easy to do that too, kind of like a filing cabinet for code.

Write notes about what the saved snippets of code do, so you can come back to them at any time and reference them easily.
Play around with the a copy of the code by changing number values, so you can see them "react" yourself.
For me, adequate sleep is more valuable than extra study time. YMMV on this one, though.
Classical music helps me get in a zone to study or code. Music with words distracts me too much. Once again, YMMV.
Forums are great places to learn about things. Who cares if you can't understand much of what they are talking about at first. I remember when I felt lost on NWN forums.
Just one last bit from a guy that went back to school in his 30's for something totally new : Don't worry if some people in your class seem to already know the stuff. They have their own reasons for being there. You payed for your time there and the school's job is to teach you the material in the course. (Just my opinion, of course.)
