I still remember the day Tavi got epic. 'Twas also the day Meri got a +3 ring of protection! 'Course, now that's not so special, but it was a huge deal back then!

After the fall of the Fort Crater Tower, the Great War of Alliance vs. the Pact

Rumor flies of battle between Hell Knights and Vandals inside Raven's Watch. Tales can't agree on how or why it happened with the recent pulling back of the knights. Some say fights started due to philosophical differences in factions. Others blame deserting and demoralized Iron City forces that may have stayed behind in the Watch. With the fall of the Crater Fort Tower and death of Krel, the Watch's warlord, some drunks whisper of concerns throughout the city that Azuul's disciples could be making a bid for control. In the wake of a blow to the Pact, the long shadow and memory of Bane's grip on the local Zhentarim Ebon Post is stirred in the market. Would the Banites' move to consolidate power as well?

All rumor agrees deaths came out of at least one scuffle.

Word of mouth is difficult to trace. Patrons at the Eyrie say they remember sharing conversations about the events in question but those conversations were hazier than normal. Perhaps it was due to stronger drinks. A few residents mention someone jabbering funny words at them before or after dialogue. It could have been those damn goblins in the corner though.

Of course, there are those who pay no mind to the talk as one lordship is much the same as the other, they say. Still others say fights happen in the Watch all the time. Some disregard the rumors as standard gossip and drunken, tavern conspiracy.

Lady who refreshes me, who cleans my wounds, and soothes my burns, I thank you for my life. I thank you for teaching me to listen and to see so that I may serve those who thirst or those who seek to be cooled in the rain. I do not know what it is that the future holds, but I know that I am a ship in a storm trying to find the shore. The rocks are craggy and hidden among the waves. Infiltration and removal of sympathizers

Areas visited: Iron City back alleys, marketplace, Opera House exterior

Contacts: [Redacted]

Casualties: 6 (Duxotari, Dottari, Hell Hounds)

Efforts have begun to identify potential alliance or Andarus sympathizers...or simply refugees seeking to escape the siege efforts as the Empyrean Aurora assails the city. Magic signs have been left for the appropriate seekers and will continue to function as a trail with the appropriate securities and wards affixed. Intelligence opportunities are secondary and targets of opportunity tertiary. Opposition will be neutralized as befits the situation and available resources.

Targeting of Inquisition, Legal Officials

Areas visited: An Iron City Courtroom

Contacts: Redacted

Casualties: Two Inquisitors, Duxotari, Dotarri and a judge

Strikes have begun against higher city officials. Let them remember that they cannot hide behind their laws. This city will be reminded of its freedom, one way or another. Communications have been established with the appropriate individuals as Kreis and the Empyrean hammer continues to bang on the diabolists' door.

Under the eyes of Hell, bound fiend attacks

Areas visited: Iron City Square

Contacts: None

Casualties: 6 Dotarri, 2 Duxotari

The diabolists place their trust in the power of fear and the gaze of their false god and its kind. We shall break that faith by letting devil hunt devil and under the eyes of the devil king's monument. A pit fiend was summoned inside the square after neutralizing Duxotari eyes, carefully. It was brought down with the arrival of reinforcements, but the damage was done and the bodies left in the open. Care was taken to aim combat away from those shackled in the stocks...

Fighting won't be enough...we'll soon have to move those seeking escape if we're to gain any sort of trust among those watching.

Smuggling and escort of siege refugees

Environment: Target drop areas, city streets

Time: Night

Encounters expected: Hellknights with true seeing equipment (certain), inquisition (potential)

Primary objectives: Extraction of contacted families and refugees, death of alerted patrols

Risk level: Potentially high

The appropriate messages have been delivered. Target families will be removed from meeting zones and escorted to the extraction point at the appropriate time. This will likely be a high risk operation as Duxotari are some of the most elite of the isle's fighting forces and come prepared with true sight as standard issue equipment. Fighting must be kept to a minimum but if we must engage, kill Iron City forces at all costs. We can't lose even one of our wards. We've no idea how long this siege will continue and the more lives retrieved, the less mess for the Empyreans and Kreis to handle as they clean the city interior. Allies will be gathered after quiet observance in the Kreis Market and then briefed in a safe location in preparation to the mission. Potential distractions may need created in the devil city to facilitate safe retreat.

OOC: This event is tentatively scheduled for Feb. 26, 7 p.m., eastern time, Greenwich Mean Time is 5 hours ahead of eastern time. Staff is welcome to participate as well as others. If you've an idea, concern or want to reach out, feel free to PM me here or on Discord. It is safe to assume there have been magical signs placed about the Trade that those predisposed towards "goodness" would hear. A gentle song encourages meeting in the Kreis Market in regard to an Iron City mission. Those of ill-intent can potentially "hear" the message as well with magical influence, but it's harder to make out. Just PM if you're curious.

Assaulting inner gates with flesh beast

Areas visited: Pass of Ashes, inner Iron City gates

Contacts: None

Casualties: Duxotari, Dotarri, Hell Hounds, numbers unconfirmed

Diabolist forces have placed a necromantic curse just in front of the remains of the former Empyrean supply portal in the Pass of Ashes, likely to cut the line in hopes of starving the war effort. A beast of flesh and blood stands square within the wall gap, seemingly grown in or of the energies surrounding it. The paladins report it to have taken a number of their troops as they attempted to breach the gap. Observation of the being reveals it may also have been created in part with wild magicks. Overall, it seems to halve the effectiveness of damage spells and is resistant to a variety of others and weapons. While possessing immense strength, it also makes use of Horrid Wilting, an eighth sphere necromancy spell, and also utilizes a cone paralysis ability.

Standard guerilla protocol tells outnumbered forces to use whatever resources available. Analyze, adapt and improvise...The beast was commandeered and directed to break enemy forces within the city inner gates. Just before doing such, anonymous word was sent to the respective Empyrean camps encouraging them to potentially take advantage of the beast's brief absence to haul through emergency supplies.

Magical connection and sight of the beast were lost as diabolist forces swarmed in attempt to take control of the inner courtyard, albeit this agent believes at potentially high cost. Numbers of enemy casualties are unconfirmed.

Aftermath Report: Iron City Refugee Rescue

Environment: Iron City lower level alleys, market

Time: Evening

Weather: Clear, although peppered with Empyrean siege weapons

Contacts: Priest of Selune, Hydro Merano; Shadow Dancer, Ellisril; unidentified magic user, Lucille; Hand Servant, Felicity; Mercenary, Lily Alfein

Casualties: Unconfirmed numbers, Pit Fiends, Erinye, Duxotari, Dotarri, Hell Hounds

Primary objective: Recover all refugee targets complete

We were successful in acquiring all target refugees with no damage to them...All save for a man who was being burnt alive in the market for his stances against the Iron City administration. There seem to be others in the city pushing against the clergy. This is good news, but how long they can survive, what kind of supplies they have and just who they are, I do not know, nor their number. I'll have to confer more with the dissident after he has rested. The priest's assistance likely has quickened the healing process considerably. Two men working slave labor were also led out of the city. I suspect they were placed as bait so the erinye inquisitor woman could harass the group with bow fire from the next city level. One of us was felled during the trading of blows and spells but was recovered before we made a hasty exit, having acquired all targets.

Priest of Selune, Hydro Merano, served as a healer for the team. Lily Alfein led the front, axe in hand, felling fiends, while shadow dancer Ellisril and hand servant Felicty served as ranged support and reconnaissance. Lucille, a magic user of some divine and arcane talent, provided spell support.

We retrieved one boy as well. Where his family is or if they're alive is unknown. He seems to be at a loss for words since the event, quiet, withdrawn, but at least eating and drinking. He's possibly between 10 to 12 years of age. A proper caretaker will need found, but for the time being, I suppose the dragons and I can keep an eye on him. The others are being housed in Hamley for the time being until they choose to go their own ways.

I fear my colleagues spied by Iron City forces may be identified in the future. Measures will need taken...what those are though, I don't know yet.

Organize and supply rebel cells, strengthen Empyrean supply lines

Environment: Target storehouses, urban streets, markets, potentially barracks and armories, Drakamyre wilds

Time: Likely night

Weather: Unknown

Encounters expected: Hellknights with true seeing equipment (certain), Inquisition (potential), Hell Hounds (certain), Pit Fiends (potential), undead

Primary objectives: Drop supplies to dissident cells, Empyrean lines

Secondary objectives: Destroy/steal any diabolist supplies possible

Tertiary objectives: Neutralize opposition without drawing attention, find leads to Empyrean commander's location

Risk level: High

Recent information indicates Empyrean forces suffered a series of setbacks, leading to a slowing down in supplies to the waste camps, siege camps and attacks on Hamley. The flesh creature still stands. Appropriate supply lines outside of enemy spell and siege engine reach need established. The dissident aristocrat [redacted] has healed but will carry his scars the rest of his life. He has confirmed pockets of resistance within the Iron City, but they lack organization and supplies at this time. This leads to several goals, some that may need completed in steps and not all at once. If we can steal from the influx in diabolist supplies, disrupt their transmission and provide them to the resistance, we can hopefully slow enemy forces further recovery and strengthen a position within city gates.

We've proven that victories can be pressed through and under the eye of the diabolists while missiles rain from the sky. We must push any momentum we can and hopefully inspire other rebels to join the cause. Even a giant fears hornet stings to the eye.

OOC: Tentative date to be set April 4 at 7 p.m., eastern, GMT -4. If you consider yourself an ally of Lomir's, feel free to RP he's sent out a missive to meet at the Kreis market for an upcoming operation to be detailed at meeting. If you're interested in playing in another capacity, or have not met Lomir before, PM me!

Embracing Your Inner Scum

Aftermath Report: Iron City Supply Raid, Rebel Support

Environment: Iron City alleys, market, merchant building, guard outpost

Time: Evening

Weather: Clear, although peppered with Empyrean siege weapons

Contacts: Shadowdancer Ellisril, Shadowdancer Gringen Gingerbranch

Casualties: Unconfirmed numbers, Duxotari, Dotarri, Hell Hounds

Primary objective: Acquire supplies and hide them in a dead drop for rebel teams

With the influx of supplies to Hell Knight forces, two dancers and myself entered the city before raiding a city market and a merchant building for resources. Enemy forces were dispatched as best as possible while minimizing civilian costs by either knocking them unconscious or hampering them magically. A guard outpost was also assaulted with Hell Knight weapons and armor confiscated. All were hidden in a dead drop for dissidents to find. I returned later in an attempt to cleanse any signatures that could be tracked magically on the equipment and food after parting with the dancers...but I'm one mage. It's a gamble. We acquired enough supplies for 10 individuals. There's still the chance we were seen. With Hell Knight equipment though, it might prove enough for a team of rebels to begin harassing targets within the city walls independently and to blend with diabolist forces.

I've no idea if the Empyrean will take the city. Hopefully, momentum is being created that will at least birth a capable resistance to continue combating diabolist influence from within the city's walls despite the outcome of the siege. Even if the Empyrean do take the city, they'll still have to change the hearts and minds of those held under years of tyranny. My gut tells me the citizens are more likely to hope if some of their own take up the cause of freedom. Time will tell. Hope is a quintessential illusion, but a source of strength. The dissidents will need plenty of it.

The Empyrean still need a stronger supply line.

Keeping the Embers Alive

Aftermath Report: Iron City Parlay and Siege's End

In the end, the Empyrean Aurora attempted to come to terms with the diabolists. Making a deal with devils was something I'd never thought I'd see paladins do. I will likely forever disagree with their action but the diabolists had agreed to let those who wished to leave the city free and regard contractual debts paid. Aeryth Elowyn, one of the founders of the second Celestial Order, and I had a long conversation about the nature of fighting, sacrifices and gains. She seemed of the mind that the paladins had lost too much on the field, were walking away with refugees and a small victory could be taken from that. Other matters needed the paladins' focus. I was of the mind that the deed should be finished and the diabolists toppled. I can say the only thing I think we agreed to that evening after a meeting in the Empyrean Aurora battle tower on the siege field was to provide safety for those leaving the city. There was no shouting or anger, simply facing the tragedy of the situation in our separate minds.

Elowyn bid me tell those in the city who were part of the rebel network to leave for safety, but how does one tell another to leave their home after bleeding for it, to see false prophets lie and trick others in slavery? Is it better to live? Is it better to stand and die for what is right? Is it better to live and come back to fight later? Those are questions only the Iron City citizens could answer themselves.

The separate powers met on the field soon after to discuss an end to hostilities. The Empyrean Aurora had some large construct to serve as a secret weapon which was answered in response by an animated statue of Azuul, presumably the same one to be found in the Iron City courtyard. After posturing, the refugees were released into the care of the paladin alliance. And because we like cliche statements, all Hell then broke loose.

The celestial Chaska's construct "malfunctioned" and crushed the diabolist queen.

Oops and what a pity.

We escorted the refugees quickly from the field after a brief engagement and back to Hamley after cries of betrayal.

I can't say the diabolists were wrong. Words from the celestial made me question whether she knew her construct might act up. She seemed to think it sabotaged. It ended up on the field anyway. I'd be lying if I said I didn't think of striking the queen down on the field myself, but I couldn't risk the safety of those becoming our wards. All said and done though, those who wished for freedom from the city got it. Unfortunately, I fully expect the diabolists to retaliate against Hamley in the coming weeks, as is the nature of fiends. Deals or not, they'll slake their lust for violence in one form or another and excuse it in any manner of ways. The only good fiend is a dead fiend or being utilized to kill other fiends. Why the paladins ever thought to trust some deal with them is beyond me.

For now, there are a few rebels remaining in the city. Devoted or insane, I've no idea, but they'll be the sort to stack dissident pyres high against the inquisition. There are enough of them for our order to keep an eye on the happenings there and hopefully enough in the future to stoke another revolt and strikes against the diabolist government. They say the new queen is mad. We might have to toss some oil on that little spark.

Why did the paladins get out-muscled by diabolist forces? That answer, I believe, could be found in the Iron City's continued supply support from Dragon's Watch through the use of portals once the paladin planar inhibitors were broken. The Iron City cannot receive support easily through more traveled trade routes as they are surrounded by undead, rocky walls, the waste and separated from the rest of Thain by the Empyrean Aurora. Their only other method of support is through magical transport. Gods forbid if they ever make friends with the Bagnorn...

Before Garrik Brennan left for business, he told me the old Vandals had been usurped by the Drake faction currently maintaining a hold over the Watch. Knowing Krel's lot, I doubt they'll go out quietly. It might be to our benefit to see what they're up to.

To escape their evils, lead me to safe harbors. But more importantly, grant me the power of your tides, the shark's courage, and whale's wisdom to bring others to dock with me for we are driftwood in this life, tossed about without aim.

May it forever please your glory, let it rain...
