We seem to have a bit of a faction problem with some shop keepers in the city being somewhat less than customer friendly.

Hey guys! In 4-5 hours time, I'll be taking the server offline for a couple of hours to do the following:

Change the powersupply, as it sounds like it's dying.

Remove a harddrive, so that I have nothing personal stored on the server anymore.

Move the server into its new home, in the utility room.

The process should be done in a couple of hours. I'm also setting up a new router, which should be relatively painless, but you never know!
Anyway, I'm aiming for a couple of hours. Thanks!

Finding the first marker had been easy.

The people of this island were apparently proud, and dismayed of the great temple that once stood. They were quick to speak of it's majesty, and openly wept telling of the death of the God Twins. While the history was interesting, the Collector had to see if this was indeed the first of the many markers that suggested the Conduit was here, or had been here.

Seeing the ruins was admittedly rather exciting. While he had seen countless examples of the Conduits passage, this one was undeniable. Mount Celestia, the plane of the Celestials.

[ image disabled ]

They were on this island, on with enough power to create a literal fortress. This was no lone Celestial lost on this plane, they were in numbers and recruited mortals to join their cause.

He researched these supposed Celestial Knights, and in researching them he learned of an order. The Keepers. The Collector would file that name for later, for he would learn one way or another, just what they kept.

Summoning a messenger Imp, he handed his second letter along with a page he tore from a tomb upon an alter. He also added a brilliant blue gem, a Celestial Crystal. This crystal also had links to the island, and rumors of another crystal. One as dark as this was light. A Rift stone.

Had the Conduit caused this rift?

When the gods died and the temple fell, had the Conduit closed a door to Celestia to bring these so called Aspects? Were the Aspects themselves the proof, the marker to the Elemental Plane?

There were so many questions. But if he was anything, he was as patient as he was driven. He will learn, he will know. But for now a small victory. He had found the first Marker, now he just had to find the others.

The Collector was becoming excited, a direct link had been found.

[ image disabled ]

This was no assumption, no theory, no rumor, this was a direct link. A link that he and another had followed. He did not reveal to the Collective who his new associate was, not yet. This would be a surprise for them, though it was more than that, he was keeping her as his own secret asset. How they would react to knowing who she was, at the title she held. It was almost amusing.

The last time he was on Thayan land, it became a mess. Many assets were lost, and he was nearly caught acquiring the relic. But he was not, he never was. As always, he never failed, never left witnesses. Would this one meet the same fate?

He did not think so, this one he would see about taking with him when he left. Her power was wasted here, and admittedly, he enjoyed the company. While they were nothing more than partners sharing a journey, she made the path they tread enjoyable with their banter.

When he was done, when the great prize was finally in his grasp, he will take her with him. That he had decided, the only question was how willingly she would go with him.

He marked his maps, prepared his letter, and summoned the courier imp to fetch his package. A second marker had been found, visited, proven. More will need to be found, and he would find them.

As he wrote of the Plane of Fire, his eyes kept returning to one of his maps. Two things caught his attention, the Feywild and the Shadow Plane.

It was a long shot, a stretch that he had trouble taking seriously. But he could not deny the similarity, the Feywild, the Feywood. Did the elves name their forest after that Plane? He wasn't sure, perhaps just being elves, they liked the name. He'd look for a link, he was sure there was something to find, the issue was the damned creatures already hated the Collector.

While he had to admit he hasn't exactly done much to change this, the fact they watched him so closely made any investigation...complicated. He'd keep the forest on his list, a link was there. He'd just leave this one for the last. If the elves were to be dealt with, if they held the Conduit, then he would leave them to the Collective.

[ image disabled ]

The next reference that caught his eye, the Shadowfell. He's already met a few Shadow Dancers, he even once found a gem that suggested a direct link to the Shadow Plane. But when he tried to use it himself, the stored magic within did nothing but break the gem into powder in his palm. He'd have to gain the trust of one of the islands Dancers. Or if not trust, hire one to just give him the proof needed. A woman named Cathe once introduced herself as a guide, perhaps she would be the one he'd turn too.

Leaving these thoughts to file for later investigation, he decided to proceed with what he knew. One of which was that strange blue underground cavern. He'd been here before, it was this place that he found the blue crystals to link the island to Celestia.

He brought his new partner to join him. She would have insight or history that he lacked, and he called upon that to trust that a pool would be 'safe' to use. Giving into the pull of the water, he found himself on another plane. A plane, he wasn't sure what to call. But be it a creation of the Conduit, or from other means, another link was found.

[ image disabled ]

Any exhalation that could have come from this finding was short lived however. For not only did he find another plane on the island. He found something else, something that not even the Collective would be happy about.

Thain had Illithids. Worse, an Entire Hive Mind.

Perhaps that is why this strange 'Orc Plane' did not fit any of the maps or lore he knew of. Could this be a Psionic Plane, one created so the Illithids could spawn the damned Orcs to act as protection to their domain? He did not trust anything to do with Illithids, anything they are involved in can never lead to anything good, nor healthy.

Either way, things just got very, very interesting. He just hoped that he did not need to return, having a Hive Mind find interest in you is never a good idea. But he will remember this, and if needed, use this new finding to find more clues to Conduit.

When training new collectors, Jachin stressed one important lesson, "Keep moving, and pay attention. People love to talk, people love to boast, eventually someone will say something important, or you may stumble upon something of interest in the simplest of places."

True to his word, it happened to the Collector. It was one of those days he called his 'Foot days'. He was not going to hunt for clues, raid anything for funds, or train. Foot days are where he would just walk. He would visit every merchant he could find, double check his maps, inspect a new found forest clearing, and turn down a new ally way in the cities.

On this day he went to the Trade and Tackle. Normally this merchant had very little to offer, most adventurers went to the city to deal with the Hin. But on a whim he went to listen to the fire talk, detoured to the coast village, Websters, then hit the Trade to talk to Bence.

Rumors were mindless, stock was sparse, but before he left, Bence said he had something unique. The merchant knew the Collector would pay for anything news worthy or important, and he held onto something to see if Jachin was interested. He was.

At first he thought it an odd box. But after inspecting further, he found it would open. Not like a box would, but more a folded leather sheet. Buying with an added bit of coin in thanks, Jachin took the item and made his way to the city and his rented estate to give a detailed inspection.

When he finally grasped what he found, the Collector recoiled in shock.

Someone had found a map, an actual map to the home of the Slaad. Someone on this island had been to the Limbo Plane.

He'd seen the Slaad, often these planar travelers are summoned by some upstart mage, or 'slip' to this realm and become stuck. So while he was interested, he found excuses to leave that part of the island alone. He'd go there eventually, that he knew, but the egg laying beasts were never a place one rushes to visit.

He would have to enter those damned caves now, to seek the Slaad and find out where the map came from. Someone had been to Limbo, he held proof of that. But was it a rare pocket travel? Did a mage acquire it from a summon? Or like the others, did the conduit open and maintain a link to yet another plane of existence?

He'd figure out one way or another, the only question was he and the Wizardess 'enough' to face such a dangerous trek?

It started with good intention.

Sure there may have been a little impatience on the Collectors side, but the 'plan' was to get a layout of the tunnels, nothing more. Reconnaissance, yes, that was the word he would use when he braved the Wizardess again.

Reconnaissance, and seeing if a trip was even worthwhile. If it was just some failed Wizard mistake, then why even bring the woman with him? He was just saving her time, and his own. It was a valid excuse, but one he doubted she would fall for.

Not that he even needed an excuse. They were partners in this, and she freely admitted that he would do many things without her knowing. Still though, he needed her for information, and angering the Red was as much as dangerous, as it would be wasting an asset if she felt scorned and left. Appeasing her would come later, for now he had to review the experience and write his report.

The tunnels were rather thrilling, the blasted Slaad were vicious and clever. So, he felt he was doing a service to his 'partner' by coming here first. A few times he was lost, more than a few times he was mobbed with the vile creatures. In the end he found what he thought looked promising, and he told himself to note it, map it, and leave.

[ image disabled ]

Though, and this is a valid excuse, while he stood there mesmerized by the floating runes, Slaad kept coming through the assumed portal and attacked him. This was where good intention and greed took hold of him and he had to decide. Leave now to return, or KNOW, for certain.

He picked, knowing.

This may not have been the best choice he has made in his unusually long life. He prided himself on his patience, his will power. But this was another Marker, this was possibly more proof. It had to be known, and known at that moment.

He was whisked away to another plane, THE plane he was looking for. Yes, it could just be another pocket plane, a leftover of magic gone wrong. But as he wandered, it just had to be the Plane of Chaos, the Home of the Slaad, it had to be Limbo.

[ image disabled ]

The ground itself followed different rules, one moment he would stand on elevated ground, the next he was looking at the same spot, though now upside down. A blink he would find himself on another entire level, just to find a door that sent him to yet another vantage point. It had to be the Chaos Plane.

He was sure of this, and while he made ready to use the box map to go gather the Wizardess, he....started to make friends.

[ image disabled ]

Many, many friends.

He had no idea how many he fought, he still even now could not put a number on it. Nor even how long he ran and battled the beasts. The Collector was created for war, his life devoted as much to the Conduits search as it was for battle. But even he started to grow tired.

One fight, one day, one week, time and numbers no longer held any meaning to him. All he knew was survival and death. When he finally felt his mind ready to snap, for his body to give in to the unrelenting urge to seek a final rest. He gathered his wits, he channeled his anger, and brought the fight back to them. This was the third Marker, not his final resting place. He -would- survive this, and with a flick of his wrist, he used the gem he was given by the Oracle to call his undead Juggernaut to his side.

[ image disabled ]

This would be a great moment to share one day, had he the capacity to remember it. But the simple truth is, the battle, battles, were just too many. So many doors, found behind the heaps of so many bodies, became just too countless to remember. How he found an exit, he had no idea. Nor even cared at that point, all he cared about was to escape, to rest, and to inform the Collective.

Two things were at least a certain. One, Thain had a Third Marker.

[ image disabled ]

And two...he would send proof he was there to see it.

[ image disabled ]

[ image disabled ]

Now, all he had to do was find out exactly how long he had been gone, and maybe find a peace offering to appease the woman....

Something had been bothering the Collector for a time now.

It was one of those nagging feelings that linger in the back of your mind, a feeling that not only persists, but grows with each day. He first came across one the "Pocket Planes" when he and a group travelled into the depths of the Iron Clan tunnels.

The others have grown accustomed to the "Planes of Peace" as they were now called, and for the most part the group even ignored it. But to the Collector this was further proof.

He had to centre himself to hide his excitement, to note the location and report to the Collective on what he discovered. What startled him even further, was when the others spoke of more such places. More?! These he had to find, but also, why were there more?

This was the start of that feeling, the pressure, the confusion, the lingering feeling of dread. Could all the rumored markers, the links to other planes, be caused by a failing Conduit? Worse, has someone felt its power was too great, and they destroyed it? Thus setting off a chain reaction of power from the Conduit, that dropped these Planes across the Island?

No, he doubted it was destroyed. Its power was ancient, even if someone found a means to break the stone ring, it could not be totally destroyed. So why all the markers? Did someone during the islands first beginnings try and use the Conduit, but was unable to control it?

The other part to this headache, was the settlements. Yes, the Island had all sorts of powerful entities, Dragons even. But Greenvale was a perfect example. A Fortress to rival any on the mainland, inhabited by Elves of all things. Did the Elves create this to keep something out?

....or keep something safely hidden within?

He would revisit this thought, for now he would report on the Pocket Planes. Then he can focus on the four major settlements of "Good".

That and he had one major revelation yet to make. This one he knew, was the reason the Archivist sent him here. But the Collector was keeping this finding a secret from the others, just a little bit longer.

Partially because he enjoyed being an ass, but he felt that once he told the Collective, things on this Island will become allot more complicated. Other Collectors may come, or the Archivist knowing he was right, would send the entire weight of the Collective upon Thain. And the Collector, was just not ready for that to happen......yet.
