Well...we did chop down one tree. you know, Circle of Life and such.

And then there was the time that we almost burned down our own grove.

That one was not really planned.

Or take a good solid coffer, fill it with random useless junk, lock it tight, leave in an abandoned tunnel and let the future people wonder why that stuff was so important.

Heck, just do that ahead of the second shift, and let them find it.

Take care of yourself down there, my friend. Do you guys walk down in those tunnels or do you drive? And how big is each tunnel?

Hey mate, we don't walk down drive the ute around in and out of the hole. The drives are 6mtrs and 5mtrs and to be honest i am not 100% sure the decline size meter wise. The stopes we just had the biggest firing at this mine with many bigger to come, but a very new mine so they start small but that was 5tons of emulsion.

As for treasure chests none found yet, how ever i did find some weird things in my last mine that was been going since the 70's in the old workings. Old smoko areas and tools ect around the place. Did a stint of 2 weeks at one place quit and started at this place *always chasing the better money!* was told they still had the old stables down there back when they used horses. I never found it as its a closed of part of the mine now days.

I would guess it's there to catch small rocks and debris, for worker safety; not to prevent any large scale collapse.

Some notes:

That's standard mesh, which as Amber said, is to hold back loose material from falling. The back (roof) also has a layer of shotcrete, which is kind of a concrete type material that is sprayed on (you've probably seen it on road cuts).

Large scale collapses are controlled by designing the proper width and height of these drives to limit the potential risk (my job). Smaller blocks are held back by those bolts you see in the back (they are upwards of 10 feet long) that get cemented (resin if needed) to try to lock the various blocks together.

The location that he's in is called a decline, where they are doing it just to open the mine up to lower areas and more resource. Eco works in a narrow vein deposit (as least what I gather), so there is very targeted blasting to get as little of the background rock out (non-resource bearing rock is called dilution) as it's more expensive to deal with in the mill (have to put more in to get the same amount of $$$ out).
