Not to mention the time it takes to walk trough a city. Pretty sure you couldn't walk from one end from The watch to the other in 30 seconds.

Characters age at the speed of their story too. It isn't always perfect, I remember when Miggen had only aged like a couple years and met with a friend who went from ~30s to full blown "it's been 84 years..." old woman, so it was awkward navigating that RP but nothing that ruined my fun or character.

I started here in my 30's, I am approaching my 50's, I am reminded of time slipping away enough as it is.

I dont really want to have it in my make believe world.

Another reason I REALLY don't like anything beyond real-time.

If we followed in-game time, every NPC you like died long ago from old age, and any non-elves that are more than a year or two old are on their way to retirement.

Things were looking quite bleak for Hamley, as of late. Even with so many fine and true folk, many with power in their own right, trying to solve it's problems, Tanna still feared some form of disaster was just imminent. It was something that she could not convince herself would NOT happen. It troubled her much, as such a feeling went against her sunnier and more optimistic nature.

She began to think of what might happen; the Weave would be repaired, and all would be well. Or, it might rupture and destroy Hamley. Two extremes. In either case, the survivors (she could not bear to think of there not being any) would need help as the land either healed or decayed.

And then she began to think of of some larger implications. Without Hamley, the isle's sole source of staple crops had been Davenshire. Prices had spiked, making food both more expensive and harder to come by in some places. Steinkreis produced nothing of value, besides pompous idiots on thrones and hot air. The local waters had been apparently been fished out, or were close to it.

If some catastrophe were to hit Davenshire, or linger for many years about Hamley, starvation and privation would see many suffer. An idea began to form in Tanna's head: "What if someone had lain in stocks of seeds, medicinal herbs, salted and pickled foods? Fresh water? Maybe tents and blankets?"

With such a supply, the effects of most disasters on Thain could be considerably leessened for many. They would have shelter and food in an emergency, when they needed it most. They would have seed to replant their crops. The only questions were what should go into this Rainy Day Bank, and where to keep all of the supplies, safe, until they were needed?

Tanna needed expert advice, which meant a talk with Willow, for certain. She would also need someone to do some of the legwork for her. She had a particular hin in mind for that job, someone who appeared to have what it took to join the ranks, but who had not yet been tested.

Willow, unfortunately, was abroad doing whatever it was he did, and had no time for Tanna. Sans the benefit of his expert advice on hearty crops and plants, she would have to follow her own path.

The first step was to ensure that she could find a suitable storage house. Something convenient, yet not too easy to penetrate, so that the supplies would not be stolen. She paid a visit to Lord Lumpypants of Steinkreis in the hopes that he might rent her some space within the Grand Keep, or perhaps some other building that could be guarded by the Kreis Knights. She did not expect him to be altruistic, and was prepared to offer him gold.

She was quite disappointed, for Lord Kampfer sat there is stoney silence. She made her appeal to purchase or rent space, and it seemed to fall upon deaf ears. But she was hoping that one of his advisors was sufficiently intrigued by the idea of more gold inthe city's coffers to perhaps help her. But she wa sunsure, and such a thing would have to be cultivated out of earshot of Lord Kampfer, in any case, she thought. If he had an inkling of how much money might be in the offing, he would certianly ask for far more, the greedy bastard.

Her next step was to lay the groundwork for acquiring supplies.

Stocks of seed corn and wheat would be needed, and they were available in but one place; Davenshire. Tanna would not approach Mayor Peregrin directly, but through the offices of two of her hin friends, Tavi and Pippi. They could negotiate the sale of seed, although top coin was on the table, arousing much less suspicion than some Tallfolk. if Peregrin was wise, he would ask what for, but Tanna believed he should not know what she had planned until he seemed receptive to the thought of money. She wasn't too keen on filling Peregrin in on the entire plan, at least not yet, so that he, too, would not be tempted to ask for more...at least not yet...

The problem of space had arisen. Where to keep all these supplies? Where to house the possible refugees? What if Hamley had to be rebuilt, only in some other place?

Tanna set about finding some answers to these questions. Her first stop was Faran Cobblewall, the Innkeeper. benetah his inn were a series of tunnels and rather large barracks-like space. It wasn't the most comfortable spot, but it could be useful as a stroage site. Caravans bearing food and supplies from Davenshire would need a convenient place to stop on their way to points north. She surveyed the possibilities of using the space.

She then had an absolutely fascinating talk with Faran, himself. It wa soriginally about renting that space, but it turned into something far more valuable. For while Faran had agreed to let her use the space (in fact, he pretty much let anyone use it), he had also agreed to take in refugees, or at least the sick and injured.

This was rather generous, and decent of him!

But even more interesting was a suggestion he had. There was, indeed, a space which could house many, but which had lain abandoned for some time. Tanna decided to gather some stout allies and investigate it's possibilities.

Davenshire could not, obviously, supply all her needs. Even with gold pouring in, assuming the deal could be reached, more would be required. There were few other sources of food and materials on the isle, and so this wouold necessitate importing some. Imports required ships. Ships were in short supply.

So, Tanna asked questions about available vessels, taking the time to talk to an old and trusted seadog. If anyone could answer her question she was certain that Brayer could.

Tanna had been in touch with Kaeridris regarding her latest plan. Kampfer apparently wasn't willing to spare anything for a contingency plan, and she needed his assistance.

Once she had secured the resources she was after, educated administrators would be required to take a complete inventory and co-ordinate the distribution of goods to those who needed it the most. This would be an ideal exercise for his first generation of graduates. Firstly as a test of their skills, accounting, organising, and robust sensitivity analysis to prepare for any contingency, and secondly, to remind them of what their training was ultimately best used for; to benefit the many - an outlook which would serve them well in the future, Kaeridris assured them. Four of his students, those who now needed the least classroom attention, were allocated to deal with this issue.

Initially they were instructed to plan only, and remember that their aim in this endeavour was always to provide for and house the most vulnerable in the event that conditions in Hamley displaced a large number of the population there. Ultimately, however, as the most familiar with the plan, they were told that if it ever needed to be enacted, then they would be required to take part in making sure the supplies reached the refugees safely.

The other issue was storage of the supplies once she had acquired them. The Academy of the Silver Scroll, as a former warehouse, was an ideal place, safe behind the walls of Steinkreis. Kaeridris had been wondering what to do with all those unused spare crates anyway, and the relatively empty administration office would make a good storeroom until she decided on somewhere else.

The original emissaries had failed. Perhaps Tavi and Pippi had just not had an opportunity to speak to Mayor Peregrin, or more likely, they had stopped to play along the way and forgot all about their mission. No matter, for Tanna had come across Peter and Amy, Mr. And Mrs. Highhill, Rightsized Knight and Maiden.

She asked them to pass her request onto the Mayor.

Peter was concerend that such ashipment north would draw thievesand scum from all over, like flies to honey, but Tanna assured him that the supplies and the route they would take would be well-guarded.

Now, she just had to make arrangements to ensure that this would be so...

Following Faran Dearest's advice, Tanna headed north to the abandoned Bloodguard Fortress, with a muscle-bound, but darling orc in tow, should there be trouble.

The Fortress was a shambles.

The dam which had kept the lake's waters out of the fortress was now broken, and the water had poured in, flooding everything. The water has thigh high, and full of flotsam and jetsam that made walking difficult. Tanna and Damaskus explored what was left of the outer courtyard, until the water began moving rapidly, pulling them along with the current, until they found themselves before a staircase and gate by which the atwer found it's way into the fortress below.

The interior was just as badly flooded. And inhabited.

There were beasts below in the flooded Bloodguard fortress. Nasty beasts with sharp claws and an ability to secrete a foul-smelling, musky oil that stung the eyes and made on nauseous. Damaskus dispatched them with alacrity, but it the duo found themselves surprised that anything would make such a place their home.

The immediate danger seemingly passed, they began a survey of the fortress, evaluating the possibilities of repair, cleanup and utility. The place was immense, with room for hundreds, easily. If it could be repaired and the flooding stopped, it would serve well as an emergency shelter.

The sound of rushing water could be heard within the fortress. The deluge which had flooded the interior of the fort was continuing to rush to the lower levels of the bastion. Tanna and Damaskus followed the sound and current, until they came to yet another stair.

They followed the current until they found themselves gasping for breath in filthy water. There were sewers beneath the fort, but they were flooded as well. It was not possible to swim or see very far in that mess, and so they turned back. But Tanna knew of a means by which she could continue to explore these ruins.

She would just need more friends, and something special, to get it done.

Tanna had only briefly mentioned to Jalla her plan to gather emergency food stores for the Island, inquiring of Jalla's knowledge in herbology as to what would be the best plants to store up for food and medicine for a crisis. Jalla had advised her, thinking the project had great merit. But unfortunately, before Tanna's untimely death Jalla had not spoken with her again as to whether any progress on gathering the food, gold, or finding the places necessary, had been made.

Jalla decided that she would carry on this compassionate project, and had been looking for every opportunity to first find a place or places to house the emergency stores, before she could take the next step of buying or soliciting donations of food for storage. Recently, she had become hopeful that the Davenshire hin, many who had esteemed Tanna as a good friend, might see the virtue in building their new Temple with storage facilities for this kind of thing. But they needed gold themselves, or the donation of building materials, in order to even consider the construction of a storage cellar.

A while back Jalla had met a fellow who knew where Tanna had temporarily stored some of the food that she had collected. Knowing that, Jalla had looked for a more permanent place to store it all, perhaps in several places-- south, west, and north.

Thus Jalla had collected funds to fulfill Tanna's wishes to help her beloved hin friends in the funding of the Temple in Davenshire, funding that would also help them complete an emergency stores cellar where food and other items might be collected to provide for disaster emergencies in the south and across the entire Island.

The plan had been to transport the food from its temporary storage down there as soon as the Temple was finished, but then had had to wait until the Tiroth invasion had been repelled.

Jalla had been intent on getting those food stores down to the Shire as soon as there was a place to put it. The Temple had been completed, and she'd heard that the cellar had been built, so she was just about to contact Ressen about bringing the bags and barrels and bushels to store there.

But now.... disaster in Davenshire.... reports that the entire town had been leveled. Perhaps not even the Temple left standing, it was a good thing that the food stores had not been transported down there already.

Now was that Rainy Day that this had been prepared for. The food stores would be needed for relief. Jalla send word to her helpers to bring the food down to Greenvale....
