Not to mention the time it takes to walk trough a city. Pretty sure you couldn't walk from one end from The watch to the other in 30 seconds.

Characters age at the speed of their story too. It isn't always perfect, I remember when Miggen had only aged like a couple years and met with a friend who went from ~30s to full blown "it's been 84 years..." old woman, so it was awkward navigating that RP but nothing that ruined my fun or character.

I started here in my 30's, I am approaching my 50's, I am reminded of time slipping away enough as it is.

I dont really want to have it in my make believe world.

Another reason I REALLY don't like anything beyond real-time.

If we followed in-game time, every NPC you like died long ago from old age, and any non-elves that are more than a year or two old are on their way to retirement.

Hamley's delegation to Feywood consisted of Hayleigh, Pylia, Jaegar and Edgar. The shaman and General stayed at the fringes of the Elven home while Pylia and Hayleigh ventured inside.

They had not been kind or unkind, Hayleigh had felt the Council expressed pity, sorrow and resignation towards herself and Hamley. Though she got what she came for and returned to Hamley.

Reporting to Colonel Bennars...

"Colonel.

My 'isit to Feywood on behalf of Hamley cannot be measured in success or failure as such. The El'es believe we mean them no harm and mean us no harm in turn yet they turn their back on us and will not interfere for better or for worse.

The Lady... She was not unkindly though the Council were not pleased to see myself."

Hayleigh takes a deep breath and exhales slowly. A brief pause to consider her next words

"Colonel, Feywood believed it was our fate to die by Fhelkhorn and as we did not, fate will find another way. Nature was scorned by the frost and the cutting of the forest and what harm is done cannot be changed. Nature will retaliate. The Lady spoke with sorrow, she pitys our plight.

Though I had not shared that with any other as yet, Colonel. I am not certain what would be the better course of action. To stop or to plough on. To stand our ground and abandon Hamley and return to Steinkreis."

Hayleigh felt anger, disgust and shame at her finishing words and went on rather more forcefully.

"We cannot allow these hot headed fools wage war on Feywood or allow the extremists of nature and shapethie'es to bring harm to Hamley or force their ways upon us when they do not seek any reasoning only destruction and death themsel'es.

Hamley does not surrender. Hamley might'n withdraw, it might'n burn, ' it might'n flood or be in'aded though we do not surrender. Fate is not written, not in the Great Song. Our fate is our own to forge."

-- Hayleigh Faldanis

After the incident with Amel, Celeste heads inside Keeper Hall to write a letter to the WIzarding School.

Dear Bigrin,

A matter has come up regarding an item that the priest in the Hamley thicket has. He seeks some Arcane aid for advice on what to do with it. If you could please meet with him and hear him out, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you,
Celeste
She seals the letter in an envelope and delivers it to the School.

Reading the letter Bigrin sets it down and ponders what a priest would have need of the arcane for.

"Something important I would guess, with Miss Celeste sending the letter and no discription of what it may be. Well, I had better go and hear what he wishes to learn"

With that, Bigrin wraps himself in his cloak and picks up his staff from where it leans in the corner and makes his way out from the school tower and begins the walk to Hamely.

Using the mean of magical hiding while travelling, the journey was uneventful, and several hours after setting out he saw the outer walls of the town appear amongst the small hills. Releasing the weave so that the guards would see him approach, he entered the town and made his way to the thicket.

"Hello there. In case you do not remember me from my few visits to your temple here, I am Bigrin, with the school of wizardry in Steinkreis. I recieved a letter stating that you wished to speak with someone about arcane aid or advice. I will assist you as I can. Please tell me of what concerns you.

With that he patiently awaits the answer that will hopefully shed some light upon the inquiry.

The priest in the glad smiled upon Bigrin's arrival, nodding after he spoke, "I prayed that the school would send a representative, and in such a timely fashion! I suppose time is short and dangers are still beset upon Hamley so I shall make this quick, please follow me..."

The priest directed Bigrin towards the Hamley barracks, entering into the wooden structure and walking up to the Colonel's office; rapping on the door. After the Colonel looked over and nodded them in, the priest entered.

"Here I have with me a representative of the Steinkreis Wizard's School, Bigrin. He has come on behalf of our... problem."

Bennars simply nodded, bending down and moving one of the floorboards aside. From the floor he removed a small oaken box, which he placed on the table as his opposite hand reached directly under it and removed a key from under the table. After unlocking the box the colonel revealed a small bag, tightly sealed, as he held it up to Bigrin. "I will let you know what you are about to do may be very dangerous, and I understand should you wish to decline our requests. In this bag we hold the ashes of the villian Amel, destroyed by divine force on our temple grounds in one of his attempts to ruin us. We wonder if there's a way we can use his remains to create a... ward."

The Colonel paused, looking at the bag that dangled from his hands as he considered how strange his words sounded even on his ears, "We've battled Amel before and did away with him, but the beast has a way to come back. No longer a physical being they say, he exists only as an immortal spirit. We hope our efforts delayed him, but I will not give my heart to false hope that he will leave us be forever. But we must find a way to keep him away from the workers, keep him from causing more needless and cruel death. We need to find a way to use his remains to keep him from the village for as long as we can."

Bennars' eyes moved to lock with Bigrin's, the bag still dangling before him.

Bigrin takes a moment to process what was just said, Amel, at least his body, had been destroyed through divine workings, reduced to ash. Could there truly be a chance to reduce the harm Amel is known to cause?

The next thing to cross through his mind was the amulet asked of him so long ago from Izuria, she wanted him to create a ward to protect her from pit fiends using the heart of one. Then the studies of necromantic arts that he had done under Rorry while a student at the school and the continued study for the stone that Andras requested of him to hold a part of one's soul. And finally all that he has learned in the arts of crafting magical aids. As his mind moved from thought to thought, all that kept coming forward was, these small steps must have been in preparation for a grander event … possibly this one. Wa'i'lanai does watch over the use of the weave and creates a flow to guide one.

His eyes moving from the Colonel's to the bag and back he thinks a moment longer then opens his mouth to reply.

”The simple answer to your question is yes, a ward of protection using the remnants of the one that you wish to protect yourself from can be created. The question is how much area will need to be protected. Do you want the whole of the village protected or the areas where it will be easy for him to gain entry and as much of the work sites to the north protected?”

Pulling two notebooks and a quill out of his pockets, he places them on the table and moves to sit. Opening one of the notebooks to a blank page and the other to a page full of notes, drawings and runes, he begins speaking his thoughts and making notes on the blank page.

”Let me see, we have the village and the work areas, it would be good to have the magic spread out onto the road a ways, hopefully extend to a point that you would know if he is attempting to learn of the boundaries, but far enough to keep him from causing simple patrols harm.”

He looks up to Brennars, ”Do you have an aversion to certain magics being used?”

Turning back to his notes, he quickly sketches a layout of the village and makes marks.

”Totems as some call them, with the right runes, etched and filled with paints infused with the ashes and the proper activating reagents should offer some protection. With the addition of resins to seal them and using the proper items to strengthen the magic, maybe they can offer one hundred meters of protection each and then placed in these locations,” points to four spots on the quick map (south of each gate and just inside the northern walls), ”they would still overlap and protect your major points of entry and should overlap most of the area being worked by the men outside the gates. Of course if you wished to place them outside your walls you will get a bit more of a protective circle, but leave them vulnerable to attack. Also if you wished to do so, the creation of six to make a more complete circle of protection may be a good way to further the effect.”

”It may not be perfect, but it should keep Amel away and at bay should he return. The question then comes down to for how long. As they will be exposed to the elements, it comes down to how much the elements will affect the pieces used in the making of them, so maybe it could ward you for several months time. Would that be sufficient? Could you do the work you need to in that time? There is always a chance it will be longer if you have a mild season, but that shouldn't be planned on.”

”If this will work for you, I shall begin to devise what will be needed to complete the task and get started as soon as I can. Or was there something else you had in mind?”

With that he pauses and awaits the Colonel's reply.

"We're simply looking to protect the workers, the ones he's been attacking, for a time period. If you can stretch the ward beyond that, then by all means. And certain magics... well, I'm not exactly sure what you mean. Isn't magic just magic? Don't damage anything, if that's what you're asking. I'm not so much worried of an attack... if they can keep Amel away that's really our main concern right now; but perhaps if you could conceal the method in which you make it happen that would be for the best, to avoid detection of others."

The Colonel handed over the bag, and ordered two of the guards the escort Bigrin and keep an eye over him. "Like we said, time is short, so as fast and efficiently as you can would be preferred, Magus Bigrin."

Closing and stowing his books away, he takes the bag as he stands, "Very well, something to protect the workers, and keep it or them concealed. I will do what I can and quickly."

Moving out of the barracks he looks around and then turns to the guards.

"If you are willing to help, I will likely need one of you to run a few errands and collect a couple items. As I am certain with the tones used, you are to remain by my side to see this completed. Come I need to make a few stops if you are truly going to stand over me as I work. One of which will be to return to the school so that I can get a few things."

With that, he turns and heads to Keanes' and speaks with him briefly.

"Keanes, I know you are likely very busy with the current needs for the work being done, but I have a favor to ask for a project I am doing for Colonel Brennars. I need several, maybe a dozen, encasements for locket style amulets formed. They do not need to be pretty and iron will work, the thing is I need them in a few days time when I return from Steinkreis."

With that, Bigrin awaits the reply before making his way out and beginning the travels to Steinkreis.

Bigrin had done as he had told the guards he would. Moving quickly he got the answer from Keanes then was away south with the guards in tow. He knew that the guards were there to serve two purposes, one to watch over the ashes and the other to make sure Bigrin does as he was asked. South they traveled together until coming to the crossroads, were one of the guards was sent to Cobblewall for some of the fine grade sap carried there. To speed the trip he was given two potions each of invisibility and speed, so that hopefully he could complete the round trip in the time it would take for Bigrin and the other guard to make their way to the school and back.

Making their way to the city and the school, Bigrin and his singular escort made their way to the school, were Bigrin went up to his room and gathered several bundles of specific reagents and a couple notebooks, then made his way into one of the labs to gather the final pieces he would need to complete the process to create the wards. Having gather what he needed, he met the guard in the common room of the school and they began the trip back to the crossroads.

After a brief stop to eat and rest a bit at the Trade, Bigrin and the guards returned to Hamely. Getting a room at the Roadhouse, the equipment was set out and prepared, and the notebooks opened to the required pages. As it would be another day until the encasements were ready, the reagents and ashes were prepared for use.

Gargoyle skull, skeleton knuckles, the claws of a bear, crushed gemstones and oil of juniper all needed to be prepared to hold and balance the magic that would be allied, and once ready they would not only assist in holding the magic, but making the resin cure properly and the wards work against the one intended.

When this was done, it was time to get a nights rest, in the morning the wards would be completed.

First thing in the morning, one of the guards was sent to acquire the encasements and then everything was set into motion.

The oil and ashes were mixed into a paste then packed into the hollows of the claws. The skull, knuckles and gemstones mixed into the tree sap to create a resin. Filling the encasements with resin the open ends of the claws are then set into the resin with the major portion of the claw coming out and curving down.

Before the resin could dry the wards were imbued with the magics to keep one away. Necromantic spells of fear and control, focused on keeping Amel away from the force within the necklaces themselves. Illusions of phantasms to create a vision to be feared and a binding of the magic to hold it steady for as long as possible.

After the amulets were made, the exhaustion took its toll, both from the long day and the expenditure of energy to call upon the needed magics. Sleeping while the resin cured, the day was over.

The following day Bigrin gathered up the amulets and headed over to see Brennars.

”Colonel, here are the wards for the workers. These should keep Amel away for a time and keep the workers safe. I do not know how long they will last, but I would expect a few months safety. I hope these will serve your needs.”

With that the bag of amulets is set on the table.

Jalla quietly walked into the room where Colonel Bennars stood poring over a mass of papers that had spilled onto the floor. He hardly seemed to notice her for a moment, but then raised his head and looked at her with weary eyes. She smiled at him, "Colonel Bennars. I bid you greetings, and again offer my condolences for the difficult situation which Hamley is in presently."

She paused for a moment, then continued, "I wish to reassure you, that despite the vicious rumours of Feywood's unfriendliness towards Hamley, that we of Pack Far-Runner are still friends of Hamley, and seek to help you in your time of troubles. There have been many ill things spoken of the elves by the humans, and perhaps some unfortunately-couched words by Feywood. Being half-elf and half-human, both my husband Krin and I can sympathize with both sides. The elves and the druids seek the healing of the land, and the humans of Hamley seek the well-being of their people and the healing of their community. Both must live, both are part of Life. It behooves us to find a way to balance the needs of the inhabitants of Hamley, which are great, with the needs of the sick and impoverished land and its creatures, which are also dire. My family, and those of Feywood with whom we associate, are greatly concerned, and have been pondering how to remedy this terrible situation. The people and the land are linked, and depend upon each other. And the well-being of the whole of Thain depends upon Hamley. May we all work together to find a solution for the good of all."

With a slight bow of her head, she took her leave of the busy and obviously frazzled officer, and went out the western gate. With a sigh she regarded the trees torn down and being chopped for stockade posts. Yet she gathered her resolve, and went about the area, on her guard against those who would harm the humans, but meditatively communing with the Source to encourage its resurgence to rise and heal the situation.

After seeing some odd vines slithering around to the north of the village walls, Celeste decided to prepare the Empyreans in case an attack was coming...when she tried to boost the crusader's strength, the spell failed.

Deciding that strange magic was dangerous, she went to speak with the colonel.
